Why Do Many Students Face Visa Rejection?

No doubt, getting selected at a reputed University is a big step towards success. The student is in for a multi-faceted global experience, and a stellar academic journey. However, simply receiving the University acceptance letter is not enough. The Visa process will ultimately determine whether or not the student is allowed to fly to his dream destination or not.

A student may be brilliant enough to secure admission at a reputed University and yet his Study Abroad Student Visa may stand rejected. The visa rejection may be attributed to one or more of the following reasons:

1.     Errors in Application Filling
The information provided in the visa application form, which needs to be filled and submitted online, needs to be authentic and complete. It is on the basis of this document that further visa process will be initiated. There should be no room for error and the completed form must be re-checked thoroughly before final submission. People often find it difficult to decipher what has actually been asked and end up filling the form incorrectly. Hence, before filling, the correct meaning of what has been asked must be understood.

2.     Missing Documentation
The document requirements must be carefully understood and complete submission must be ensured. In the case of European countries, apostilization of documents needs to be done by the competent authority. Another point to be borne in mind is that, if the documents are in the native language, they need to be translated to English from a certified translator and details of the translator need to be mentioned. Thus, all such factors need to be taken into account for ensuring document completion.

3.     Proof of Funds
This is a vital part of Student Visa Requirements of all countries. Financial sufficiency needs to be demonstrated that covers the University tuition fee and the living expenses for the duration of stay. The expense calculation must be done thoroughly to ensure that the candidate has enough funds to support himself in the destination country. Factors to be taken into account include the currency exchange rate and the place of stay. Certain cities are way more expensive to live in, than others.

4.     English Language Requirements
For students applying to English speaking countries such as the US, UK etc., the English language requirements need to be taken into account. Having a decent IELTS or TOEFL score would immensely help in getting visa approval. Poor IELTS/ TOEFL scores would definitely impact the chances of getting a student visa.

5.     Stating the Intent
This is a point of concern during the visa interview, which emphasizes heavily on the candidate’s intent. Visa authorities of countries like the US need to be assured that the candidate is coming to the country with the sole purpose of studying and not for finding employment. The applicants must ensure that they make it clear to the visa officers that they have no intention of staying back after their studies.

6.     Misrepresentation/ Falsification of Information
It is very important to be completely honest while answering all questions, not only on the application form but also in the visa interview. Often, the visa officers ask questions for the sole purpose of cross-checking. For example, the officer may ask if the candidate has ever faced a visa rejection before despite the fact that the officers already know of past immigration history. Attempts to mislead or misrepresent information may lead to a rejection straightaway.

7.     Incoherence During the Visa Interview
The final stage in the process of getting a Student Visa USA, UK is the visa interview. The visa authorities take this opportunity to assess the candidate’s credibility and sincerity as well as to cross-check various facts and figures. Details on the University and program to which the candidate has applied may be asked. Other general questions are also put forward to the candidate. It is paramount for the applicant to answer the questions lucidly, without getting flustered. A candid rapport between the candidate and the visa officer would greatly augment the candidate’s chances of getting a visa.

8.     Misguidance
More often than not, it is due to the errors in the guidance that the student fails to get a visa. Students and parents approach agents who claim to be specialized in foreign education but are spurious. This wrong choice drastically affects the student’s aim for a successful education overseas. Hence it is advised to consult experienced and genuine overseas education consultants to ensure that the student fulfills his/her desired career aspirations.
