Re-entry visas Abolished for Ireland Student Visa and other Visa Holders

“Every visa holder of Ireland would require a re-entry visa, if they wish to travel out of Ireland for short term upto 90 days”, stands no longer true. The re-entry visa requirements are only applicable for adults with a Stamp 6 Immigration Permission i.e. dual citizenship.

Students who had to travel for myriad reasons like research or study purposes, adults who had to travel for business meets, conferences or holidays and even minors for that matter, everyone required the re-entry visa to be applied. This meant time consumption, energy and money consumption in irrelevantly despite having a valid visa for stay or study as per the visa norms of IRP (Irish Residence Permit). Any IRP visa holder (having a registered immigration permission to stay in Ireland) had to apply before planning his/her trip out of Ireland, wherein once applied the process had a waiting period of five to six weeks despite mentioning genuine emergencies and mandatory trips for study or work. The fees charged for the same were € 60 for single journey and €160 for emergency.

The waiting period kept the individual almost captivated for no good reason and neither allowed him to enter Ireland without the re-entry visa if left without having one, and in such cases, the individual had to apply for a fresh visa for study or stay to complete his task in Ireland. The candidates holding an Ireland Student Visa, were its victims the maximum times. Let’s have a glimpse at the older troublesome steps to face a hazard-free return to Ireland after any type of short trips taken specially for those having an Ireland student visa.

•    Primarily, every student was permitted a single entry to the State of Ireland only.
•    For any reason to travel out before completion of your study in Ireland, you were expected to apply for the re-entry visa even before you planned your travel arrangements.
•    In case you were unaware of the process and returned from a short trip for relaxing yourself, you won’t be allowed to enter without the re-entry visa because you won’t have a valid reason of travel nor your ignorance for re-entry visa requirements.
•    Even if you successfully got your re-entry visa, you had to present the evidence of your return to Ireland to complete your study tenure to the visa officer.
•    Lastly, before your visa was issued, you had to register with Garda National Immigration Bureau and had to be in possession of the GNIB Registration Card.
•    The most important aspect was the money involved in the process, the amount required for the re-entry visa was €400 i.e. €300 for GNIB/IRP and €100 for re-entry.
•    Lastly, the applicant had to wait for 6 weeks until issuance of the re-entry visa.

With great efforts and controversies for the entire process that existed for almost a decade, the re-entry visa requirements and process has been finally abolished with effect from the 13th May 2019. This would benefit over 40,000 people annually and especially will make the Ireland Study Visa requirements, process and the duration of study in Ireland a better experience than before.

This abolished re-entry visa requirements lets you to apply to study in Ireland and experience hassle free experience, with the new amendments in student visa requirements in the interim period of the student’s stay in Ireland.
